Should Your Face Cleanser Foam?

March 22, 2023

It doesn’t have to. Two of the most common forms of face cleansers are gel and foam.

To those who don’t use any type of cleanser to wash your face, know that using a cleanser in your skincare routine is of utmost importance to remove dirt, sweat, and makeup from the face. But what you don’t want is a cleanser that’s harsh and will over strip the skin of the critical oils it needs to stay healthy, leaving the skin dry and flaky.

“It’s time to deprogram yourself.”

It’s time to deprogram yourself. A foaming face wash is not bad and can be helpful for the right client. Depending on skin type and ingredients. We’ve been marketed to and led to believe that if you have lots of foam, it’s doing something. So we believe we need it. They’ve got us all mixed up. It’s really certain skin types that need it.

Although gel cleansers provide a milder cleanse, don’t confuse that with an inefficient one! This just means they cleanse your skin without leaving it feeling stripped.

Gel cleansers are especially good for unclogging pores while removing excess oil and acne-causing bacteria from the surface of your face.

There are a few basic steps that you should follow to thoroughly clean and prep the skin for any following products:

Place a small amount of whatever cleanser you have chosen into your hands and combine it with lukewarm water, water that is too hot can dry out your skin and should be avoided. Massage it onto your skin using circular motions for at least 30 seconds. This gives you enough time to cover your complete face, including often forgotten areas like along your hairline, below your ears, your neck, and your décolletage. After you have washed your entire face, thoroughly rinse off the cleanser with more warm water and pat (don’t rub or wipe) your skin dry with a clean towel. If possible, try to use a separate towel than the one you used to dry your body after a shower or hands after you wash them. Different areas of your skin may carry different bacteria and it is best to avoid introducing them to additional parts of your body.
